Thanks for your question. 'Mark' is a verb and it means to defend by standing next to an attacking player at set-pieces like corners and free-kicks to stop them getting the ball. For example, when there is a corner, the defending players will either 'mark' an attacking player or 'mark' an area of the pitch to stop the attacking player getting the ball. The first is called 'man-marking' and the second 'zonal-marking'.
