Taken off for treatment.

Taken off for Treatment

Taken off for Treatment

A defender goes down injured, and you order him off the pitch for treatment. But two minutes later the star striker who he was man-marking scores. You suddenly realise that you’d forgotten to wave the defender back on. The defender’s team are really angry, demanding the goal is disallowed (that you cancel the goal on the scoresheet).
What do you do?

You are the ref

Read the statements below and decide which is best. In this case, is it a goal or not?.
Allow the goal

Well done! This is the right answer.

You cannot disallow the goal. You’ll have to put up with all the criticism because you’ve made a serious mistake in not allowing the player back on. Fortunately this shouldn’t happen in the professional game because of the combination of the fourth official and the communication system.

Keith Hackett: The rule about having to leave the field after receiving treatment is one that I would love to see changed. A few seasons ago, Thierry Henry was injured from a challenge which resulted in a penalty. Having received treatment, he was then forced to leave the field of play – meaning Henry, Arsenal’s penalty taker, couldn’t take the kick. What a nonsense.

Fair enough - I would have disallowed the goal for my mistake.

When a player off the pitch for any reason like changing teared kit can't back on the ground without referee wave. During this time if a goal has been scored should be accepted.

There's a lot of things that the officials should pay attention all the time, isn't it?

Unfortunately, a referee's mistake can cause damage to a team, they are humans, so that should be normal.

Quite often we witness the situation when close to the end of the match a player of the winning side fall onto the pitch pretending to be injured and stretch the game. A few seconds later he is fit as a fiddle and gets no punishment. I would love to see it changed.

It's not a nonsense Keith. This rule doesn't alowe teams who are in lead and deffending (player can just lay down) to stretch the game and make it boring till the end...
