On Sunday the 11th of April, the final matches of the 2013/14 Premier League season took place.  Both Liverpool and Manchester City could still win the title. Liverpool needed to win and Manchester City to lose, if Liverpool were going to win, but Man City knew that a win would mean the title was theirs. Liverpool won 2-1 against Newcastle, but Man City won 2-0 against West Ham, which meant they lifted the Premier League trophy for the second time in three seasons.  Let's take a look at the Champions and some of the best matches, goals, and players from this Premier League season.

How did Manchester City win the title?

There is no doubt that Man City deserved to win the title, they won the most matches, scored the most goals, and had the best goal difference. With Yaya Toure, who was top scorer with 20 goals, in the centre of the pitch City have a truly world class player. With strikers like Sergio Aguero (17 goals) and Edin Dzeko (16 goals) Manchester City scored 102 goals, which is the second highest ever in a Premier League season.

What was the best match?

There have been lots of exciting matches this season and we are sure that you have your favourite. Here are some of ours:

Everton 3-3 Liverpool - 23rd November, Goodison Park.

Luis Suarez scored a fantastic free-kick. Romelu Lukaku looked to have won the game for Everton with two goals, before Sturridge scored in the last minute to get a draw for Liverpool.

Manchester City 0-1 Chelsea - 3rd February, Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea became the first, and only, team to win at the Etihad this season. Jose Mourinho used the perfect tactics to win the game, with the Serbian, Branislav Ivanovic getting the winner and Eden Hazard the best player on the pitch.

Liverpool 3-2 Manchester City - 13th April, Anfield.

Liverpool played superbly in the first half and led 2-0, with goals from Sterling and Skrtel. In the second half, City were amazing and scored two goals in five minutes. With 12 minutes to go, the Brazilian, Coutinho scored the winner. Many thought this was when the title was decided, but they were wrong!

Manchester City 4-1 Manchester United - 22nd September, Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City were sensational and Manchester United were not in the game. Two goals from Aguero and one each from Toure and Nasri gave City a comfortable victory over their city neighbours.

Who was the best player?

Luis Suarez was amazing all season. He was the Premier League's top scorer, with 31 goals and won the PFA Player of the Year award. He became the first Liverpool player to score more than 30 goals in a season since Ian Rush, in 1985-86. Eden Hazard had a fantastic season with some sparkling performances for Chelsea. Yaya Toure was brilliant for Manchester City and was voted Africa Player of the Year for the third time. Many other players had a fantastic season too. Is your favourite in our team?

Luis Suarez - Liverpool v Norwich, 4th December.

Luis Suarez can score every type of goal, but this 40-metre volley was absolutely senstational. Suarez scored three more goals in this game, and they weren't bad either! 

Pajtim Kasami - Fulham v Crystal Palace, 21st October.

Kasami scored a wonderful goal for Fulham against Crystal Palace. The Swiss footballer controlled the ball on his chest and hit a stunning volley from the corner of the penalty box. The goal has been compared to one of Marco Van Basten's best ever goals for Holland.

Wayne Rooney - Man Utd v West Ham, 22nd March.

Wayne Rooney was a bright spot in a depressing season for Manchester United. The United striker scored this lob from near the halfway line, when he saw the West Ham goalkeeper off his line. The goal has been compared to David Beckham's strike for Man Utd from his own half in 1996. And guess who was in the crowd to see Rooney's goal - David Beckham!

Who was the best manager?

There have been many changes of manager this season in the Premier League, but who do you think did the best job?

Manuel Pelligrini is an obvious choice, Man City won the Premier League in his first season with the club and his first year in English football. Pelligrini has become the first non-European manager to win the Premier League. Brendan Rodgers is another possibility, Liverpool had a tremendous season and moved from 7th in 2012/13 to 2nd in 2013/14. Jose Mourinho helped Chelsea to third place on his return to the Premier League and also got Chelsea to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Further down the table, both Mauricio Pocchettino at Southampton and Tony Pulis at Crystal Palace had wonderful seasons.
