Introduction

Rich: Hello my name’s Rich and welcome to our Monday round-up section on Premier Skills English.

Jack: Hi there. I’m Jack. Every Monday, we discuss last weekend’s action, the best players, the best matches, Fantasy Football, and make some predictions for next weekend.

Rich: We want you to practise your English and interact with Premier League fans from around the world in our comments section.

Jack: You can do this on the Premier Skills English website or the Premier Skills-British Council Facebook page - if that’s where you are listening to us.

Rich: There were some marvellous matches in Matchweek 10 so let’s get on with this week’s roundup!

Headlines

Rich: Manchester Utd leave it late to beat Spurs.

Jack: Manchester Utd beat Tottenham 1-0 to stay second in the Premier League. It was a hard-fought match, but Mourinho won the tactical battle. Anthony Martial got the winner a few minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Rich: City march on against West Brom.

Jack: Manchester City beat West Brom 3-2 away from home. City’s goals came from Leroy Sane, Fernandinho and Raheem Sterling. City remain five points clear at the top of the table.

Rich: Vardy starts the party for Puel.

Jack: Leicester’s new manager, Claude Puel, will be a happy man after seeing his new team beat Everton 2-0. The Foxes looked good, but Everton - without a manager and without a win in seven matches are struggling near the foot of the table.

Definition Alert!

Rich: Everton are struggling at the foot of the table. Struggling? The foot of the table?

Jack: To struggle, in a football context, means to find something very difficult to do. Everton are struggling at the moment - they are finding it difficult to play well, struggling to score goals and struggling to win games.

Rich: And that is why they are near the foot of the table. The foot of the table is last place - 20th place.

Jack: When Everton get their new manager they will want to be moving away from the foot of the table.

Rich: Definitely - I think Everton fans would be happy with a mid-table finish at this point in the season.

Matchweek Awards

Rich: Right, every Monday, we give out three Matchweek awards. Player of the Week, Team of the Week and Match of the Week.

Jack: In the comments section, you need to tell us if you agree with our choices …

Rich: Last week, not all of you agreed with our choices.

Jack: For example, not many of you agreed with our choice of Brighton’s Pascal Gross as Player of the Week.

Rich: RafaelRC from Brazil thought we should have chosen Tottenham’s Son Heung Min and Umlaut Team Gubin from Poland thought that we should have gone with Southampton’s Soufiane Boufal.

Jack: It’s always a difficult choice and we love to hear everybody’s opinions … there are some strong contenders for Player of the Week for Matchweek 10.

Rich: Yes there are. We could go for Arsenal’s Sead Kolasinac. The Bosnian scored for Arsenal and had a great game. Jamie Vardy had a good game for Leicester and defenders at Chelsea and Stoke were very strong as both teams secured 1-0 away wins.

Jack: But our Player of the Week for Matchweek 10 is Manchester City’s Fernandinho. The Brazilian is often forgotten in Manchester City’s midfield but he is so important to the team. And he’s also started adding goals to his game. He’s a great player.

Rich: Good choice, Jack. Right, shall we move on to the next award?

Jack: Our next award is for Team of the Week. There were good wins for Leicester, Manchester City and Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Stoke.

Rich: But our Team of the Week is Leicester City. Leicester played like the team that won them the Premier League two seasons ago. Vardy scored and Mahrez got the assist. If the Foxes continue to play like this under their new manager, they will soon start climbing the Premier League table.

Jack: Finally, what about Match of the Week?

Rich: I’m going to go with Arsenal against Swansea. The Swans took a shock lead, but Arsenal came from behind to win. That’s the third match in a row that Arsenal have come from behind to win.

Jack: Yep, some good performances recently from Arsenal.

Fantasy Football

Rich: What’s been happening in fantasy football this week, Jack?.

Jack: The top scoring player in matchweek 10 was Arsenal’s Sead Kolasinac with 14 points.

Rich: The Premier Skills team got 43 points and are up to third place! Who’s this week’s Fantasy Premier Skills team of the week?

Jack: The Premier Skills Fantasy Premier League Team of the Week for Matchweek 10 is VN Wings managed by Chung Nguyen Ba from Vietnam.

Jack: Chung scored 68 points! Well done to you! After Matchweek ten, the leader of the Premier Skills League is still FC Tozo managed by Dimitar Tanevski, a Manchester Utd fan from Macedonia. Well done to you too!

Matchweek Prediction

Jack: Last week’s prediction was Manchester Utd v Tottenham. It finished 1-0 to United. Rich actually predicted the right result and the right score. Great stuff! How are you feeling?

Rich: I’m actually going to quote something from last week’s prediction.

Jack: Go on then. You don’t get it right that often.

Rich: Here goes. I think it will be a more defensive match than Spurs have played recently and they might find it difficult to break down United’s defence. United may get a goal on the counter-attack in the second half.

Jack: OK, it’s nice to show off sometimes. What's your prediction this week?

Rich: Manchester City are playing Arsenal and that’s a massive game, but I’m going to predict another match. Chelsea against Manchester Utd. Jose Mourinho goes back to his old club with Utd above Chelsea in the table. Both teams got 1-0 wins last week. Chelsea look stronger in attack and United look stronger in defence. It’s going to be a really close game and I can’t see many goals. I think it will finish as a draw. Final score Chelsea 1-1 Manchester Utd.

Jack: I think Chelsea will win this one. I think they’ll win 3-1.

Rich: We’ll see … we want you to make your predictions at the bottom of the page on the website. Are you a good predictor?

Jack: Right, that’s all we have time for. I hope you have enjoyed this Monday round-up. Don’t forget to join the discussion at the bottom of this page.

Rich: Also, if you want to improve your English, take a look at our weekly podcast. There is a link on the side of this page.

Jack: Bye for now and enjoy your football.

I agree with Jack, Chelsea's victory (2-1) Morata 2 and Lukako 1.
I joined fantasy game, but I'm worried because I am in Premier Skill's relegation zone.
In Brazil there is a very similar fantasy football game called Cartola FC, there are some diferent rules for example in brazilian's game you can change all players each matchweek but you don't lose points for It. The score is also a few different, brazilian is more complex, for example, ball on the crossbars, tackle and other things are score. It's very popular here.
Is there a similar game in your country?

It'll be interesting to see Jose Morinho back again at Stamford Bridge and I think he won't be slammed as last time round. It looks like a nil-nill draw, but I predict that the Red Devils will run out 2-1 winners with goals from MKhtarian, Lukaku and Hazard

Hi there,

Leicester wasn't the best team last week because they played against Everton, which is not in from now. The team of the week should be ManU, because they won with Tottenham. ManU played without many of their most important players, like Pogba.

And as for the big match, Chelsea v. ManU, we predict that it's gonna be a 0-0 draw. Chelsea lost an important game in Champions League. Both of the teams have strong defence blocks so it might be hard to score a goal for two sides.

That's it,
