Roberto Firmino
Roberto Firmino
Liverpool add some Brazilian magic!
After a slow start to his Liverpool career, the Brazilian forward, Roberto Firmino (or just Firmino for short), has been involved in more goals than any other Premier League player in 2016. Firmino scored his most recent goal in the big Europa League match against Manchester Utd. After some good play by Adam Lallana, Firmino hit a shot from close range that beat David de Gea, the Manchester Utd goalkeeper, to give Liverpool a 2-0 win in the first leg. With the Brazilian pair, Coutinho and Firmino, on the pitch, Liverpool look like they will finish the season strongly and have a chance of reaching next season's Champions League, either by finishing fourth or winning the Europa League.
"Firmino can play and score goals and he is a good option. He is flexible and in brilliant shape." Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool manager..
Who has been involved in most goals?
Firmino's goal against Manchester Utd was the first time he has scored in three consecutive matches in English football. In his previous two matches, the Brazilian scored against Crystal Palace and Manchester City. However, it's not only goals that Firmino provides, it's also assists. Firmino has more 'goal involvements' than any other player in this calendar year (2016). Goal involvements are goals and assists combined, or the total goals a player has scored or set up.
Club | Goals | Assists | Goal Involvements
Roberto Firmino | Liverpool | 8 | 4 | 12 |
Diego Costa | Chelsea | 7 | 4 | 11 |
Sergio Aguero | Manchester City | 9 | 1 | 10 |
The table above gives us an indication of the players that are in form at the moment, the stats also include cup football, in addition to the Premier League. If we only look at the Premier League and we look over the entire season so far, we get some very different results:
Club | Goals | Assists | Goal Involvements
Jamie Vardy | Leicester City | 19 | 9 | 28 |
Riyad Mahrez | Leicester City | 15 | 12 | 27 |
Romelu Lukaku | Everton | 18 | 6 | 24 |
Who is Roberto Firmino?
Roberto Firmino Barbosa de Oliveira was born in October 1991, in Maceio, which is a city of about a million people on the east coast of Brazil. He was discovered by a local dentist, Marcellus Portella, who later became Firmino's agent. He went on trial at Brazilian club, Figuerirense, and won his first contract after scoring two overhead kicks within the first hour of the trial. After two seasons with the Brazilian club and helping them get promoted back to the first division, Firmino moved to Germany to play for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. He spent five seasons in Germany and in 2013/14 won the Bundesliga's 'Breakthrough Player Award', which is given to the best young player in the League. He also made his debut for the Brazilian team in 2014 and currently has 14 caps, scoring 4 goals. In June 2015, Liverpool signed Firmino for £29 million. The first half of the season was quite slow for Firmino, as he adjusted to the speed of the Premier League, but since Jurgen Klopp's arrival as manager, we are starting to see what a great player Firmino is.
"Jurgen Klopp is one of the best managers, if not the best, I have worked with. We're very happy with him since he arrived." Roberto Firmino.
Did you know......?
- It took Firmino a while to get going. He only scored one goal for Liverpool in 2015 but he already has 8 in 2016!
- Firmino says that his favourite position is as a striker, but he usually plays behind the strikers.
- Firmino comes from the city of Maceio, birthplace of three-time World Cup winner Mario Zagallo, who won the World Cup twice as a player and once as a manager.
- Firmino's first goal in England was for Brazil against Chile at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium.
- Ronaldinho isa big fan of Firmino's. He says that he is as good as Mesut Ozil and Andres Iniesta!.

I think if the player is fast and talented , he will get used to the style of play very soon but if they are not into cold rainy weather , players will suffer a lot and they will end up leaving the Premier League like Angel Di Maria.

Bobby Firmino is one of the top forwards in the world. He proves this in the last seasons. He is able to score goals, give a assists to his teammates and to help the defense. If I moved to England, what would I find difficult? Perhaps in the british accent.

In my opinion Firmino can help Liverpool reaches to Champions League with his scores and assistences. He may important to brazilian's team in Russia's World Cup, replace Gabriel Jesus during the match.
It is more dificult to get used to with the style of play in the PL, because the english's football school is more diferent than german. And the England looks like a good country for life.
If I moved to England the more dificult would be the conversation because I'm learning.

I think that it's really important to contribute in a goal, either by scoring it or by assisting it. There are some times when we only value the scorer and almost all the praises go to that player but I really believe that we have to bear in mind who produced the play before the ball reaches the scorer because one player can't do it all and football is a team game. So, in my opinion both things are important in football these days.

I also think that the style of play is complicated for some players because for example, the Premier League is very competitive and has a really fast pace in their games and that is not suitable for some players. So, that is also an important thing to have into account when going to play in another country which has a different style of play.

I don't think Liverpool will reach the Champions League spots this season, they are quite far away in terms of points to be able to reach them. However, they could win the Europa League (it's going to be a very hard title to achieve because they have been matched with Borussia Dortmund in the quarter finals which is a great team and one of the favourites) and by doing that, they would get a place on the next year's Champions League.

It depends. Players from Spain for example might face some difficulties since they are not used to hard tackles and injuries but there are many exceptions also. Sanchez is one of them.
