Racist behaviour.

Racist remark

Racist remark

During a stoppage in a U12’s game, a forward complains that an opponent made a racist remark to him. The opponent admits it, and says sorry.
What do you do?

You should punish the player!

Sorry. That's not the right answer.

You cannot take action, because you, the referee, did not hear the remark yourself. However, for the rest of the game, you should keep an eye on the two players, and after the game send a report to the appropriate competition stating that the boy admitted making the remark, in case the forward (the other player) wishes to take it further.

You should not punish the player.

Well done! That's the right answer.

Although racism in football is never acceptable, you cannot take action because you, the referee, did not hear the remark yourself. However, for the rest of the game, you should keep an eye on the two players, and after the game send a report to the appropriate competition stating that the boy admitted making the remark, in case the forward (the other player) wishes to take it further.

If the player admitted to the racism and apologised then it shouldn't matter whether the referee heard it or not. Punish the player. The referee in these examples is letting a lot go unchallenged.

The referee must always be strict with all racist manifestations on the field of play, regardless of the age of the players or the championship they are in...racism must always be repudiated and we must all eradicate it.

This is about self-control.To apaologize can't be excuse. He should be punished. It doesn't need that referee could hear it. Because offensife player admitted it.

This situation is so disgusting that I would have had difficulties to be impartial. I understand the decision making now, but if I was at the pitch at the same ocasion for the first time, I should probably sent off the offender.

For me, I might give him a yellow card as a warning.

Racism is a big problem in some country's and FIFA started to take action in order to avoid that situation inside the pitch. It has also taken actions to avoid it from the stands. Well, done.
Regarding the referee's decision, he or she can´t show a card if he/she has not seen an unsporting behavior, but if one assistant reports it inside the pitch, then the decision can be other.

A verbal caution would do at this point once he has admitted to doing the act.

Also, the judge is obliged to notify the football association for every act of racism that occured on the pitch or in the dressing room.

I wouldn't sent him off since he appologized and admitted his mistake. I would warn him or show him a yellow card if it was a grave offense.

Sending him off have to be a difficult decision here because you may think if there isn't match fixing behind the fault.

Good refereeing. The referee cannot take action because he or assistant referees did not hear the remark themselves.

I got the answer wrong. I chose the first option as I thought punishment could be useful for future so that the player doesnt repeat the same mistake ever. Racism is not acceptable.
