We asked stars from the Premier League a series of questions about football, culture and English. In this video, the players talk about their football heroes and heroes from outside football. What players do you think they will talk about? Ronaldo? Maldini? Zidane? Watch the video and find out!

Complete the activities

Activity 1: The Premier League players talked about some of their heroes both in and out of football. In this first activity, you have to match the players with what they said about their heroes.
Match the players to the things they said.

Activity 2: In this activity, you have to fill in the gaps in sentences using some of the vocabulary the players used in the video.
Fill in the gaps with the correct word.

Activity 3: In the video, Angel Rangel said, 'I think footballers should definitely be role models.' Here Angel used the word 'should', which we use to say if something is a good idea or 'shouldn't if something is a bad idea. In this activity, you have to match the sentences to 'should' or 'shouldn't'. Do you agree with what the sentences say?

I'll go for Jonas Olsson. I'll like the way he gave his perspective on what a role model is. Its not important who we are but its trying to be the best we can be. Heroes can be anyone, persons we look up to and influence our lives.

Is Cristiano Ronaldo, because he intensely plays all the time, he Works hard for this. Everybody should be role models for people around yourselves. Outside football my hero are astronaut Marcos Pontes from Brazil.

I think is Choronta Restrepo a football player colombian who had an excelent performance 2002/2003.
Indeed the palyers become in a role models because de football is a world passion, the most of people always is thinking, talking or watching football.
I think my parent are my heroes.

He still playing but his perfomance isn´t great now. I think that he's my hero because when I saw playing for my favorite colombian team always played with the soul, gave it all in the games.

Tips

Become a better listener

Sometimes people speak too quickly. If you find listening difficult, remember you can stop the video and listen again. You can also do this when speaking in English.

Remember to say: 

'Sorry, can you say that again?'

or

'Sorry, what did you say?'.
