Marko Arnautovic
Marko Arnautovic
Stoke shock City!
Marko Arnautovic scored twice to give Stoke City a surprise win against Manchester City. The underdogs took the lead after only 7 minutes, when ex-Bayern Munich and Inter Milan player, Xherdan Shaqiri, went past three City defenders and delivered an inviting cross for Arnautovic to put past the goalkeeper. Only 7 minutes later, Stoke and Arnautovic had their second. Again the provider was Shaqiri, who played a perfect through ball for the Austrian international to put in the back of the net. Arnautovic could have had a hat-trick but he hit the post as Stoke looked like the team that was fighting for the Premier League title rather than sitting in mid-table. The front four of Stoke City: Arnautovic, Shaqiri, Ibrahim Afellay and Bojan Krkic had a great afternoon, and if Stoke continue to play like this, they will have many more good afternoons this season
"We tried the partnership with Arnautovic all week in training so we are happy that we scored in a game like this." Xherdan Shaqiri - Stoke City player.
Who is Marko Arnautovic?
Marko Arnautovic was born on 19 March 1989 in Vienna, the capital of Austria. Arnautovic has an Austrian mother and a Serbian father and is fluent in German, Serbian, Dutch and English. He has already played in four different countries. He made his professional debut for FC Twente in the Netherlands and stayed there for three seasons. After a short spell on loan at Inter Milan, Arnautovic signed for Werder Bremen in Germany in June 2010. In the summer of 2013, Stoke City manager, Mark Hughes, paid £2 million to take Arnautovic to England. Now, in his third season in the Premier League, Arnautovic is finally showing why Hughes wanted him at the club. Arnautovic has been directly involved in 7 goals (3 goals, 4 assists) in his last 7 home matches. Arnautovic is also a regular in the Austrian national team and has 48 caps for his country. He started all 10 Euro 2016 qualifying matches for Austria, who finsihed as group winners to qualify for a major tournament for the first time since 1998 (Austria played in Euro 2008 but qualified automatically as co-hosts).
"I want to show what sort of player I am - I want them to see my qualities every week." Marko Arnautovic.
How good are Stoke's front four?
Marko Arnautovic took many of the headlines as they beat Manchester City, but it was Stoke's attacking play that really stood out. Many people are starting to take notice of the attacking talents of Arnautovic, Shaqiri, Ibrahim Afellay and Bojan Krkic and the way Stoke City are building an attractive, attacking team. Stoke could easilly have scored 4 or 5 as they ripped apart the Manchester City defence. Xherdan Shaqiri set up both goals and had a wonderful match. Shaqiri is known as the 'Alpine Messi' in Switzerland and if he can produce the form that helped Bayern Munich win the Champions League in 2013, Stoke have a wonderful player. FC Barcelona bought Afellay in 2011 and he came on as a subsitute in the 2011 Champions League Final against Manchester United. Bojan Krkic is another Champions League winner with Barcelona and has played for Barcelona, Roma, Milan and Ajax. Any player that has been wanted by those football giants must be worth watching!
How good is Stoke's attacking talent? Can they upset more of the bigger teams this season?

It was really interesting to read all comments. Even I am a fun of Man City I may applaud Stock players for the wonderful match! As for me this "Big four" can surprise any club. I like Shaqiri and Afellays' style and I am sure they can do thier best in Stock.
Austria, who finshed as group winners to qualify for a major tournament for the first time since 1998.

"He started all 10 Euro 2016 qualifying matches for Austria, who finished as group winners to qualify for a major tournament for the first time since 1998."
Does this sentence mean Austria has qualified for a major tournament the 1st time since 1998, or they finished up as a group winner for the 1st time since 1998? Cuz the last major tournament Austria played was Euro 2008 when they co-hosted with Switzerland

Thanks for your comment manucian19. I wrote this because it is the first time since 1998 that Austria have qualified for a major tournament. As you say, Austria played in the European Championships in 2008 but qualified automatically because they co-hosted the tournament. I'll change the article to make this clearer. Thanks again!

These 'Big 4' players have formed a good partnership upfront. But we have to give credits to the Stoke City scouts and managers who succeeded in attracting those gems to the Britannia Stadium. They are in form and can spring many more surprises this season.

It was really amazing match for stoke and marko. I enjoyed watching the match .
He has perfect mentality and smart thinking showed how he scored . And shaqiri has brilliant dribble skill .
Chelsea have many players won The champions , such as Oscar , cesc, Ramires and Pedro.
If stoke continues performing as a solid team as they played against city , I'm certainly they will not only surprise the team but even they will be in top four

Stoke's attacking talent seems to be pretty good. That's strange because the club was always trying to grow old english style of football with specific long balls and hard tackles. But in the last two years they play fast and more concrete if I may use that word.
