Transcript
If the listening was a bit difficult, you can listen again and read the transcript at the same time.Read and listen.Jack: Hi everybody. I’m Jack and we’re here with a little bit of extra football English for you to think about.
Rich: That’s right, Jack. Just a little bit. Hi, everybody. I’m Rich and we’re here with this week’s Premier League Prediction and some football English for you to practise.
Jack: The phrase we’re going to look at this week is the run-in or the title run-in. What’s this word all about?
Rich: it’s a tricky little phrase. At this point in the season, you hear lots of commentators and pundits talking on TV about the run-in and you see lots of articles in newspapers about the run-in or the title run-in.
Jack: Well, the run-in means the last few matches of the season. It’s not exact. The run-in might be the final 10 games or 8 or 6 or 5.
Rich: Today, Monday, most clubs have 9 matches left to play so we are definitely at the time when we can talk about the run-in.
Jack: The title run-in is a time when the clubs at the top might start to get nervous and some strange results can happen.
Rich: Maybe Chelsea are starting to get nervous. They lost to Palace last weekend.
Jack: We’re talking before they play Manchester City on Tuesday but that is another difficult match in their run-in.
Rich: They have to play Manchester Utd soon, too. They definitely have a difficult run-in.
Jack: Spurs could still catch them during the run-in. Anything could happen. I remember Newcastle once led the Premier League from August to the end of March and they ended up finishing second.
Rich: Oh yes, Kevin Keegan and Alex Ferguson. I remember that.
Jack: What match are you going to predict this week, Rich?
Rich: Chelsea go to Bournemouth this weekend. In normal circumstances I would go for a routine away win for the Blues but Chelsea might start to feel nervous as the finishing line gets closer. This will be Chelsea’s third game in a week and this is something they haven’t been used to this season. Bournemouth don’t have much to play for but if they can finish in mid-table it will have been a successful season. I just have a feeling that the Premier League title race is going to get more exciting during the run-in and Chelsea might only get a draw on the south coast. Final score: Bournemouth 1-1 Chelsea
Jack: I agree that Chelsea might drop points during the run-in but I don’t think they will here. I think Chelsea will win 2-0.
Rich: What do you think will happen in the run-in?
Jack: You can discuss this match and the rest of this week’s football fixtures in the comments section.
Rich: Bye for now and enjoy your football.

Correct me.
I'm not sure Chelsea will get nervous, but afraid that Arsenal wiil do. The club is slightly behind the Champions League zone but the media and supporters' pressure on Mr. Wenger and his guys is too strong.
However, it's neck and neck at the top of the table between Tottenham (2nd) and Everon (6th) and actually evetything can happen during the title run-in. Pep has lost 6 matches during the season first time in his career as a manager. The Special one has lost lots of points at home. Liverpool has most of its remaining games against the teams which are not in the top-8.
There are lots of things for all the top clubs' managers to complain about and to struggle with. That's why it will be very difficult to stay cool.
Unfortunately, the universty won't let me watch any of the Saturday games, but I'm going to watch the London derby on Monday.
It's much better that there are only 2 hours difference between London and Moscow now.

Hi Shobonenok,
I agree. Chelsea might be out ahead but there is still a lot to play for! I didn't know that the clocks didn't change in Russia! I've made a few corrections below. I hope they are helpful.

Correct me, please.
I think Chelsea will get narrow win. It will be their third game in a week, as Rich mentioned, so they will try to save one's strength. But the Blues should carefully control the game to avoid surprises in the form of loss of points on the eve of difficult matches against MU and Spurs.

I think Chelsea can win title, they won't get nervous because they have past experience in situations like this.

At the title run in is very dangerous for the teams at the top to face teams that fight against the relegation, but in this case Bournemouth's team is quiet in the mid-table, that's why I think Chelsea will win.
