What do you eat?
Hi there! My name’s Jack and I work on the Premier Skills English website. You probably saw me on the Facebook Live event we did for lesson one during this activity week or heard me speaking to Rich in the podcast you listened to during lesson three.
Anyway, this lesson is all about diet and we want to help you with lots of new words and phrases connected to diet and food and also find out how healthy you are! I thought the best way to do this would be to talk about me and you. You’re going to read all about my diet and I will highlight some difficult vocabulary on the way. At the end of the article, there is an activity to check the vocabulary and a quiz to test your understanding of the article. Finally, we want you to discuss the type of food and drink you eat at the bottom of the page.
Before we start, I want you to think about what you eat. How healthy are you?

What do I have for breakfast?
Many people say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and I agree with that wholeheartedly. I never skip breakfast. However, I’m not a big fan of the traditional English breakfast. It’s just too much for me, especially first thing in the morning, I’d have to stay in the gym for the rest of the day if I wanted to burn off the calories in a traditional English breakfast. Bacon, fried eggs, sausage, black pudding, tomato, toast and beans is too much for anybody, although I have to admit to enjoying one on special occasions!
I usually go for a bowl of wholegrain cereal. Porridge is my favourite. It’s made from oats and you just add some milk. I usually go for semi-skimmed rather than full-fat. Porridge is good for your heart and I often add some berries or other fruit but I have to say that I sometimes I add a big spoonful of strawberry jam if I don’t have any fresh fruit. Oh and a cup of coffee! I just can’t function in the morning without one!
What do I have for lunch?
In the UK, people usually have lunch quite early. We might eat as early as 12 O'Clock. If people are working they often just grab a sandwich from a local bakery or shop. I’m no different and if I’m busy I often skip lunch altogether. I’m not sure how healthy it is to cut out lunch altogether! Sundays are different, though. In my house, we often have a Sunday Lunch at around three in the afternoon. This is a big traditional meal with lots of vegetables that really fills me up. We often have Roast Beef or Roast Lamb with potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cabbage and all other kinds of green leafy vegetables. We also have Yorkshire Pudding and gravy on our plates. These are quite difficult to explain so I challenge you to Google these to find out what they are! What do I have for dessert? Well, desserts are usually full of sugar and fat so I don't usually have a dessert because I'm trying to lose a bit of weight, but if someone offers me a bit of chocolate cake it's ... well, it's rude to say no, isn't it?
What do I have for dinner?
Well, if it’s a Sunday, I might not have anything more than a cup of tea and a biscuit because I’m still full from earlier. On weekdays, however, dinner is usually the biggest meal of the day. It’s not as big as our meal on a Sunday and we eat a mixture of things. We might have a pasta dish or grilled fish with steamed veggies. We always have curry once a week. I love curry. Like many people in the UK, I am a big fan of spicy food. Lamb Saag it (it’s a curry made with spinach) is my favourite. We usually boil some rice to go with it but I prefer to eat it with bread.

I do not really have a diet, sometimes as fruit and sometimes not, and as sweet some days, but that does not mean I'm eating poorly, just that I do not have a strict diet. I do not eat lots of fresh fruit but I just to eat vegetables every day and drink detox smoothies.
I didn´t have any idea until I was reading surfing the internet and I found that Yorkshire Pudding a kind of bread and gravy is a type of sauce.

I am sure you have a healthy diet. I wish I could have a healthy diet too but I sometimes do not have enough time and I end up eating out. Even though I try to choose the healthiest in the menu I end up having dessert. I try to eat vegetables at least three times a day but sometimes I do not succeed!!!! Once I went to England and I had gravy with my meat. It's a nice sauce to go with the meat as it makes it juicier and tastier.

I think that diet is very important in our health.I usally have a big breakfast and I never skip breakfast.My breakfast is similar to traditional english breakfast.I eat eggs but instead of sausage, black pudding i love to eat some vegetables with eggs.Sometimes I throw bacon with all of this and that is my breakfast.Then I have a cup of black coffe with no sugar.I love to drink green tea also.This breakfast fills me up,and give me energy for the day.I love to eat some snacks between meals.I have nuts and seeds such as peanuts,almonds,pumpkin seeds...Often with that I eat fruits.I prefer to eat apple,bananas,blueberries,plums.For lunch I have meat and season vegetables,in fact I have a garden and there I pick up my fresh vegetables.That isn t very big garden but for my family is a source of fresh and healthy vegetables.I prefer to eat green vegetables,but I like other vegetables also.My dinner contains something like peanut butter and greek yogurt,or cottage cheese.Generally I try to eat more healthy fats and proteins,and I have small portion of carbohydrates throught the day.About Yorkshire pudding I have found that is traditional english food made from batter consisting of eggs, flour, and milk or water, at least google says that.Gravy is a sauce often made from the juices of meats that run naturally during cooking and tightened with wheat flour or cornstarch for added texture.In my country we call gravy moca.

healthy diet but not a specific menu diet i think. i ever did a diet of carbo, which is i'm not eating a carbohydrate things like rice in southeast Asia. healty diet is simple, just consume a vegetables, fruits, all of the plant produce so we get a healtier life. actually i just eats a little bit. i guess a kind or dessert in england?

Dishes with no meat like boiled beans, steamed potatoes and carrots are what I appreciate very well. Traditional bread with oat and whole grain without levures but with some olive oil are good for breakfast.
Yorkshire pudding must like ordinary pudding with perhaps some Yorkshire local ingredients like farm fat and specific cereals.
Gravy are salsas made from cooking meat oil and a lot of spices.

Actually, the traditional English breakfast is quite good if you add some vegetables. It contains adequate protein fat and carbohydrates. It's full of calories indeed.But if you do exercises in the gym, It will help you build your muscles.

In Peru, there are many traditional foods that are healthy but there are also many fast food centers. For example, a typical and spicy food in Arequipa is "Rocoto relleno" which is red chili without veins stuffed with mince-meat with cheese, milk and potatoe. It's so delicious and is a good example of healthy food.
