Linking words
Linking words
When you are telling a story, linking words are really useful. You can use them in lots of different ways. In this stage, we are going to look at three uses of linking words:
1. Linking words to show reasons and causes
2. Linking words to show contrasting or surprising information
3. Linking words to show the order or sequence of events
Here are 8 sentences from the Jamie Vardy - The Movie lesson. In each of them, the linking words have been coloured blue. Read the sentences and then try to match the linking words with the rules.
It's is a cold autumn afternoon, but the boys are running about and don't feel the cold.
In this scene, Vardy is wearing overalls and pushing a stack of boxes on a trolley. However, he hasn’t given up his football dream.
There isn’t a football pitch so the boys put their school bags on the grass to mark two goals.
They tell him that he’ll always be blocked and pushed around by the bigger players because he is too small.
Fleetwood’s manager invites Vardy into his office after the match has finished.
When he takes off the overalls, we see that he is wearing a football shirt underneath.
