Manchester City

Manchester City badge

Manchester City are the reigning Premier League Champions. City finished 12 points clear of second-placed Manchester United in 2020/21 and with players such as Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and Jack Grealish the Manchester team are among the favourites to win the title again.

  • Stadium: The City of Manchester Stadium
  • Stadium Capacity: 55,097
  • Location: Manchester
  • Founded: 1880
  • Nickname: City
  • Manager: Pep Guardiola
  • Kit: Sky blue shirts and shorts with white socks

Manchester City was formed in 1880 but had different names until they became Manchester City in 1894. City have played in the top division for most of their history but they did fall down to the third level as recently as 1999. City’s most successful periods have been in the late 1960s and the last ten years when they have won both League and Cup titles. Here are the highlights:

  • League Champions: 7 times
  • FA Cup Winners: 6 times
  • League Cup Winners: 8 times
  • European Cup Winners’ Cup: Winners 1969/70
  • Premier League best finish: Winners in 2011/12, 2013/14, 2017/18, 2018/19 & 2020/21

Manchester City's Raheem Sterling.

The Manager

Josep 'Pep' Guardiola, had lots of success managing Bayern Munich in Germany and Barcelona in Spain before he moved to Manchester City in 2016. Since his arrival, he has taken City to the Premier League trophy and transformed the club into one of the best in Europe. Guardiola is regarded as one of the best managers in the game.

Pep Guardiola is City's manager.

Three to Watch

Here are three Manchester City players to keep an eye on in the Premier League this season:

Jack Grealish

City’s biggest summer transfer has been Jack Grealish’s £100 million move from Aston Villa. The English winger will add skill and pace to either side of the pitch. If Grealish can perform in the same way as he did for Villa in recent seasons, City will be very difficult to stop.

Riyad Mahrez has moved to Manchester from Leicester City.

Raheem Sterling

Sterling is another winger who is great to watch. Sterling is fast and skilful with an eye for goal. He has been voted as PFA Young Player of the Year and at 23 years old has his best years in front of him. Sterling has scored over a hundred goals for Manchester City.

Raheem Sterling has scored over 100 goals for Manchester City.

Kevin De Bruyne

De Bruyne was many people’s Player of the Season as he helped City cruise to the title. The midfielder’s ability to unlock a defence is second to none and he also can hit a wonderful free--kick. De Bruyne set up plenty of Premier League goals last season and will no doubt be amongst the goals again this season.

Kevin De Bruyne is a key player for City.

The era of Manchester CIty

Manchester City won the Premier League last season for the fifth time and have broken many Premier League records along the way. Some of the records they have broken include: most points, most goals, most wins, most consecutive wins, most points ahead of second place and best goal difference. Manchester City’s top scorer was Ilkay Gundogan.

Manchester City celebrate winning the Premier League.

You should :)
I have one suggestion for you. I think that you could create one new tab as part of the My profile, next to View and Edit cards.
That card should contain all comments that we leave about some topics and I think that could be
simpler way to discuss with other learners and teachers (we do not need to go on some subject to see are you answer to as).
I think that is easier way to build better communications between participants.

Hi Rema - thanks. That's a really good idea. I'll share your suggestion with the site developers and see what it would take to make that possible. Thanks again for your support here.

What happens with my proposal?
Is it possible that something be done?
I think it would improve the lot of interaction between participants.

Hi Rema

It's part of the development plan for this year. Last month, we were working on making the website work on phones and tablets, but we are very excited about improving profile pages and want to do what you suggested. Bear with us and we hope you'll see the changes you suggested in the next couple of months.

Thanks

Jack
