Kevin De Bruyne and Leroy Sane celebrate together.

Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne

City thrash Palace!

Kevin De Bruyne celebrates his goal against Crystal Palace.

Manchester City thrashed Crystal Palace 5-0 last weekend to move up to third place in the Premier League. City scored their fastest goal of the season when David Silva scored after only two minutes. The score stayed at 1-0 until the second half which is when City ran riot! Kevin de Bruyne crossed for Vincent Kompany to score in the 49th-minute and then De Bruyne nearly scored when he was unfortunate to hit the crossbar with a free kick. With his next chance, however, De Bruyne hit the target with a shot from the edge of the area to make it 3-0 to City. Raheem Sterling made it 4-0, and in the final minute De Bruyne set up Nicolas Otamendi for the fifth.

Kevin was excellent today. He was unlucky to hit the bar. I think that's the tenth time it's happened this season.

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager.

Is Kevin king of the assists?

De Bruyne has 15 assists this season.

Kevin De Bruyne got two more assists to his name in the win over Crystal Palace. He set up the second goal for Vincent Kompany and crossed for Nicolas Otamendi to head home the fifth. De Bruyne now has fifteen assists this season, more than any other player in the Premier League. It is also the most assists, in one season, for any Manchester City player in the history of the Premier League. The only other players to be in double figures for assists this season are Christian Eriksen (12) at Tottenham and Gylfi Sigurdsson (12) at Swansea City.

Who is Kevin De Bruyne?

De Bruyne played for Chelsea earlier in his career.

Kevin De Bruyne was born in June 1991, in Drongen, a small town in the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium. He speaks Dutch, French and English fluenty! His mother was born in Burundi and spent her childhood growing up in London, so De Bruyne could have played international football for England or Burundi, but he chose Belgium and considers himself to be 100% Belgian. De Bruyne has over 30 caps for Belgium and played in the 2014 World Cup, he is a key member of the Belgian team for this summer's European Championships in France. De Bruyne started his professional career with Genk and won the Belgian League and Cup. In 2012, De Bruyne signed for Chelsea but was sent on loan to Werder Bremen in Germany and only made 3 appearances for the London club. He made a permanent move to Germany in 2014 when he went to Wolfsburg for £18 million. In June 2015, De Bruyne was named Footballer of the Year in Germany. In August 2015, he became Manchester City's record signing and the second most expensive signing in British transfer history, when City paid a reported £55 million for him.

"I had talks with PSG, but finally decided to join Manchester City, I saw them as a better option. I am very happy to have made that decision". Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City.

Who will Pep Guardiola keep next season?

De Bruyne can shoot, too!

The Manchester City, manager, Pep Guardiola, is one of the most successful managers in modern-day football, he won 14 major trophies as Barcelona manager and won 5 major trophies with Bayern Munich. This season will be a dissappointment for Guardiola as it will be his first season as a manager without winning a major trophy and probably the first time a Guardiola team will finish outside the top two in the league table. Guardiola is sure to continue to change the style of City's play and the club will be linked with players from all over Europe. Could we see some players from Barcelona or Bayern Munich arriving at City? What about Antoine Griezmann from Athletico Madrid? Will Yaya Toure still be at the club next season? Will Guardiola build a team around Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus?  Whatever happens, this summer will be another summer of change at City!

Did you know...?

  • Kevin DBruyne has his own clothing label called 'KDB'. Part of the profits go to charities for people with disabilities.
  • In 2014/15, De Bruyne made more assists than any other player in the top five European Leagues.
  • His football hero as a child was Liverpool's Michael Owen.
  • As a child he often spent holidays in London.

Correct me

I don't see that Pep Guardiola's first season at Etihsd Stadium has been a success. All people look to him as a great manager, and he already won so many trophies. But I think that the EPL is a big test for any manager or a footballer. And if you are a great manager, of course you will prove that you can succeed everyehere. However he needs time to adapt to the EPL and bring a couple of good defenders. I think that he shoudn't have forced Joe Hart to be loaned, instead he should given him the chance. I don't know if he feels sorry about that, because we have seen that how the Citizens had a trrible problems with the goal. Adaptation is important, the same thing happened to Gary Neville and found it difficult while managing Valencia.

Yes, I think KDB deserves more recognition and not only this season, but also since he arrived to the club. He is a superb player creating chance after chance as well as scoring brilliant goals.
Creativity is not that very important thing for all footballers to have, but when it comes to midfield it becomes extremely important especially for a playmaker. But I don't think it's something that a footballer can learn through practice, it's more of being genious

Creativity is important for every player, in any position, also for playmaker, which is the KDB play. Exactly creativity players helps teams scoring a brilliant goals.
From my point of view, Pep Guardiola's first season at Etihad wasn't been a success. But anyway he stay a great manager. I sure, City win EPL with Pep.

Hi DennyFirmino!

Welcome to Premier Skills English! We hope you enjoy the website. Your English is excellent, but I have made some corrections to your message below. Let me know if you have any questions.

I think Kevin De Bruyne deserves more recognition and not only this season, but also since he arrived to the club. His (1) creative skills are amazing!
Creativity is important for every player, in any position, but especially for the playmaker, which is where KDB plays. Exactly creative (2) players help teams score brilliant goals.
From my point of view, Pep Guardiola's first season at Etihad hasn't (3) been a success. But anyway he's still a great manager. I'm sure, City will win EPL with Pep.

  1. I think pronuciation might be the problem here because 'his' and 'he's' sound very similar. We need to use the possessive pronoun (his) here because they are the player's skills.
  2. You have the right word here but not the right type of word. You used the noun (creativity) but we need to use the adjective (creative).
  3. Be careful with your tenses. You need to use the present perfect here - we create this with have + 3rd form of the verb.

Hope that helps!

I think he has been very instrumental for the Manchester City team with his defining passes which are most often spot on. It is possible for him not to be recognised but i believe he has done enough to merit City's player of the year award if any.

I think Pep's first season with City has been good but not entirely successful. Finishing third would be something to build on next season. At least for now it is a good start as we await next season where he supposedly would have settled.

I have a feeling Antoine Griezmann might be bought by City to beef up the attacking threat of the team.

I think Guardiola is a great trainer, but he has always got very good players, maybe he needs more time to reach new trophies with City, but I'm sure he will get them in the future, if they let him work.

Hi Emiza99

There are only a couple of things that I would change here. THe first is 'to reach trophies'; we don't 'reach' trophies we 'win' them. The only other thing is that the sentence is very long. How could you break it up into two or three different sentences?

Keep up the good work!

1. De Bruyne in my opinion is more strenghful than creative as an ahead mildfielder. Although we use to say creative for this type of position KDB is more athletic and huge than creative in his style.

2. Difficult to name his coaching a success when we talk about Gardiola who was always on the top in great leagues. But perhaps he is on his way through achieving building a great team.

3 Undoubtably City has capacity to enhance its squad but I cannot say who will be chosen by the manager and the executive board.
