Manchester City v Liverpool

Welcome to our new section - Premier League Predictions! We've moved our regular football prediction section from our weekly podcast to its own section on the Premier Skills English website. This means that every Monday we will have a new prediction for you to make. This is also a page for you to discuss all the upcoming Premier League matches. This weekend sees some big matches in the Premier League and we want you to discuss all the matches in the comments section below.

Transcript

If the listening was a bit difficult, you can listen again and read the transcript at the same time.

Jack: Hi everybody. I’m Jack and we’re here with a little bit of extra football English for you to think about.

Rich: That’s right, Jack. Just a little bit. Hi, everybody. I’m Rich and we’re here with this week’s Premier League Prediction and some football English for you to practise.

Jack: This week we can forget about the FA Cup and concentrate on a massive match in the Premier League.

Rich: That’s right, Jack. On Sunday, Manchester City play Liverpool. Third against fourth and a match that might help decide which teams finish in the Champions League places.

Jack: I think it’s going to be a draw, 1-1. That would be the best result for my team, Arsenal. But what do you think Rich, you’re a Liverpool fan - do you think the Reds will win in Manchester?

Rich: In one word, Jack, yes. I think Liverpool have a great chance of winning against City and I am going to give you three different reasons. The first reason is that City have a difficult Champions League match on Wednesday. Liverpool don’t play so they will be rested and relaxed for the match on Sunday. Reason number two is that City haven’t been great at home. They could only draw with Stoke and Spurs recently and they lost to Chelsea. And reason number three is that Liverpool play better against good teams. In head to head matches between the top six teams in the Premier League, Liverpool are first and haven’t lost to any of their closest rivals this season. So, for these three reasons, my final score prediction is Manchester City 1-2 Liverpool.

Jack: You heard it here first - a win for Liverpool. If you want to make your prediction, take a look at the vote below and choose your winner and the final score.

Rich: Let’s look at a bit of football English now. I said before that: ‘City haven’t been great at home’. We use the preposition ‘at’ to say a team is playing in its own stadium. City are at home against Liverpool.

Jack: But Liverpool aren’t at home. Liverpool are away from home. When a team is not playing in its own stadium we use the word ‘away’ and the preposition ‘from’. Liverpool are playing away from home next Sunday.

Rich: Why are teams generally better at home than away from home? It’s a question that I have thought about a lot and I still don’t think I understand it. Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Jack: And remember to discuss the rest of this week’s football fixtures in the comments section. There are some other big matches this weekend, too.

Rich: Bye for now and enjoy your football.

In my point of view, City will win at home, but without clean sheet. I'm going to give three opposite to Rich's ones reasons why City deserves to success in the closest English showdown.
First of all, City is unbeaten in 11 matches in a row and the last defeat was two months ago in the home match against Everton. In spite of the draw against Stoke, don't forget about the incredible win against Monaco at home.
Moreover, if City doesn't slop out of the Champions League, the team will take heart from that success and won't let Liverpool to pull them back down to earth.
Finally, the City's defense seems to be more reliable and even tempered during the last several matches, so it will take lots of efforts for LIvepool to score.
Hopefully everyone who is going to see the game will relish it a lot.

A draw. A fair result? In my opinion, it probably was but I think Liverpool should have won. The chance Lallana had in the second half should have been the winner!

A draw will be my bet for this match.

After this journey Chelsea, Spurs, City and Liverpool will at the top of the table.

This weekend I will try to see on TV the fourth step of Shakespeare run as manager. It is an away match for the first time for him as Leicester manager.

This weekend I'm watching East Midlands derby, then Hammers at home and on Sunday match coverage from Etihad. Top 4 as it is at the moment. I would like to find some matchday programmes from the lower english leagues for reading but I'm not sure where to find it.
