Gerrard first played for Liverpool in 1998 and was the only football club he has ever played for. Gerrard was captain of Liverpool and England and he played over 500 games for the Reds, scoring over 100 goals. Gerrard won 2 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, 1 UEFA Cup and 1 Champions League and is the only player to have scored a goal in a FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Cup and Champions League Final. Gerrard was given the MBE award (Member of the British Empire) in 2006 by Queen Elizabeth II. Gerrard left Liverpool in the summer of 2015 to play for LA Galaxy in the USA. It will be up to Jordan Henderson and other Liverpool players to fill the gap that Gerrard leaves on the field and in the dressing room.
‘Is he the best in the world? He might not get the attention of Messi and Ronaldo but yes, I think he just might be.’ Zinedine Zidane , 2009.
In 2015/16, Liverpool finished 8th in the Premier League but were disappointed not to qualify for the Champions League after reaching the final of the Europa League. They lost the final 3-1 to Sevilla from Spain. They also reached the final of the League Cup but lost on penalties to Manchester City. Jurgen Klopp arrived as manager halfway through last season and he has brought lots of optimism and positivity to the fans and the club. The Reds’ top scorer last season was Roberto Firmino, with 10 goals after an injury-hit season for Daniel Sturridge and an unsuccessful season for Christian Benteke. Liverpool expect to be much nearer the top of the table this season and Sadio Mane's arrival from Southampton is an exciting signing for the Reds.
"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that". Bill Shankly, Ex-Liverpool Manager.
