Manchester City

Manchester City were founded in 1880, but they were originally called St. Mark’s and then Ardwick, before becoming Manchester City in 1894. Manchester City’s nickname is ‘City’ and their manager is now Josep 'Pep' Guardiola, who had lots of success managing Bayern Munich in Germany and Barcelona in Spain. City play in sky-blue shirts and socks, and white shorts.

Aguero is City's top scorer!

Manchester City play their home games at The City of Manchester Stadium in Manchester, which was originally used for the Commonwealth Games in 2002. The stadium holds 47276, which is less than their previous stadium, Maine Road, which in 1934 held 84,569, which is a record for a club stadium in English football. Maine Road became known as the ‘Wembley of the North’, although by the time City left the stadium in 2003 it only held 32,000.

Manchester City have won the Premier League twice, in 2011-12 and in 2013-14. In total, City have won 4 league titles, but the other two wins were back in the 1930s and 1960s. City have also won the FA Cup 5 times, the League Cup 4 times and have won 1 European trophy in 1970. Man City have been much more successful recently and have finished in the top 4 in the Premier League in each of the last 6 seasons.

‘Sometimes you have a noisy neighbour. You cannot do anything about that. They will always be noisy. You just have to get on with your life, put your television on and turn it up a bit louder.’  Alex Ferguson talking about Man City in 2009.

Kevin De Bruyne is a key player.

Manchester City won the Premier League title for the first time in over 40 years on the last day of the season in 2012. It was one of the most exciting season finales ever. Before the final games of the season, City and Manchester United were level on points at the top of the table. But, City had a better goal difference. The matches started at the same time - City were at home to QPR and United were playing Sunderland. United scored and went on to win 1-0. City had to win. In the 66th minute, QPR scored a second goal and were winning 2-1. In the 92nd minute, Dzeko scored for City but they still needed one more goal. In the 94th minute, Aguero scored for City and the blue half of Manchester went crazy.

'One of my dreams was to play here as a player. It was not possible, but now my dream has come true. The atmosphere here, wow, it is amazing. I want to live that in life. I come here to learn about the way people live here, for my family and my kids and I want to be a good manager in England.' Pep Guardiola, City's new manager.

Pep Guardiola is City's manager.

In 2015/16, by their recent standards, Manchester City had a poor season. City finished in 4th place, 15 points behind the Champions - Leicester City. They have some fantastic talent in their squad, with players from all over the world. Some of their stars include; Sergio Aguero (Argentina), Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium), David Silva (Spain), and Fernandinho (Brazil). Guardiola will want to add more top players to the squad and has already signed the German international, Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund. City’s top scorer last season, and for the fifth consecutive season, was Aguero with 24 goals. Aguero had another fantastic season and if he plays as well this season can any other team stop City?

Prediction 2016/17: 1st

Key player: Sergio Aguero

You should :)
I have one suggestion for you. I think that you could create one new tab as part of the My profile, next to View and Edit cards.
That card should contain all comments that we leave about some topics and I think that could be
simpler way to discuss with other learners and teachers (we do not need to go on some subject to see are you answer to as).
I think that is easier way to build better communications between participants.

Hi Rema

It's part of the development plan for this year. Last month, we were working on making the website work on phones and tablets, but we are very excited about improving profile pages and want to do what you suggested. Bear with us and we hope you'll see the changes you suggested in the next couple of months.

Thanks

The way Man.City won their 1st title after a long time is smth that happens once in a lifetime. But, sincerelly I don't like how they spend their money and buy new players every year. They should make new players and not only buy the best players from all around the world. Financial fair play will fix that in the future. I'm pretty sure in that.

Does it sound a little bit strange to me only? Man City have to fight for the trophies with the manager who made it clear that he would leave the club at the end of the season, and they have already signed a new manager.

I don't like very much Man. City because they have too much money and for my opinion they are artificial club. While they have a rich boss ,they will have a results. I really can't understand why they don't have a results in Champions league...when they can't 2 times pass the group round and a think twice time they lost against Barcelona in last 16, but I think that have 2 reasons. First is that they can't have a best team in europe over the night, and second reason is that I think that almost all english premier clubs are more important to win Premier league than Champions league

I can't understand those who don't like Man City for their politics, the way they spend money for so-called 'average' players and so on.They say Manchester City has no history, but it's being written now!Sure they can win season 2016/2017!It's highly-likely!

Correct me. With all due respect,I think Man City will not win this season,if Guardiolla uses the Tici Taca,This is going to kill the entertainment of playing and it will be so boring,if he uses the attacking style,City can battle for the title this season.I prefer Liverpool,Chelsea and Man United to win the title this season.I prefer United(our rivals)because they have Mourinho who had won the tile several times, with players like Zlatan and Mukhtarin they can do it and grab the title.I prefer Chelsea because the signed with a successful manager like Conte, and it looks like he will use the deffensive formation 3-5-2 this year, after signing Kante from Leicester.I prefer Liverpool not because they are my favourite club, but they have klopp, and with Klopp you will believe in the team, and signing Mane and Winaldum is really nice, but wemust sign with another deffender,Kolo Toure left to Celtic and Sako had problems with Klopp this week so he may leave.YNWA.

Hi Assemjuve

With all due respect, I think Man City will not win this season. If Guardiolla uses the Tici Taca, This  it is going to kill the entertainment of playing and it will be so really boring. If he uses the an attacking style, City can battle for the title this season. I would prefer(1) Liverpool, Chelsea or Man United to win the title this season. I prefer United (our rivals) because they have Mourinho who had won the tile several times, with players like Zlatan and Mukhtarin they can do it and grab the title. I prefer Chelsea because the they have signed with a successful manager like Conte, and it looks like he will use the a defensive formation 3-5-2 this year, after signing Kante from Leicester.(2) I prefer Liverpool not because they are my favourite club, but because they have Klopp, and with Klopp you will can believe in the team, and signing Mane and Winaldum is really nice, but we must sign with another defender, Kolo Toure left to Celtic and Sako had problems with Klopp this week so he may leave.YNWA.

1. I think that the verb prefer is not quite right here. I think I have heard it used in the way that you are using it, but I can't find any definition online that matches. To express the same meaning, I would say: I think it is more likely that Liverpool, Chelsea or Manchester United will win. You could use the verb fancy: I fancy Liverpool to win because... But I'm not sure of the register - I think it's quite informal.

2. Your sentences are a bit long and have too many clauses. It would be much easier to read your sentences if they were broken up a bit.

I think you've made some good points here. It's going to be really interesting to see how the new managers in Manchester take on the Premier League!
